headgasket

basically im just a named driver at moment on a 1.1 saxo that my mum owns, she is getting rid of it as the headgasket is going, had a £300 quote for it fixing so she is getting a new one.

she said i can have it if i want to pay for it fixing, question is, would i be able to aquire a 1.4 engine and drop that in without any hassle, i would imagine that be the case, if so how much would it cost to do?

would this also fix the heating in the bloody thing? its fucking freezing lol..

Personally I would go down the vtr route. Engine, loom and ecu (unlocked). All thats needed. Doesnt matter about gearbox.

I personally would fix the head gasket, i've just fixed mine and it was very easy.

headgasket kit and hg bolts £40 tops then usual oil, oil filter, plugs £30 cambelt kit £30-50 ish? head skim £30? won't cost much to do reallt. But dropping the 1.4 in won't be a problems either just need to sort wiring as usual

see that's what you have done

i dont want to start spending silly money on it though and surely i would need brakes on top of that.

you do all your work yourself or pay for it doing?

think i may try source a 1.4 engine and get a quote on it installing, wont be able to do it myself lol..

VTR isnt much more powerfull than the 1.4

    1.4 = 75bhp
    1.6 VTR = 98bhp

I would go VTR, would will regret it if you dont.
At 21, insurance between the 1.4 and the VTR will be marginal.
Unless you have lots of claims or convictions etc lol

    phone a friend ?
there are not many easier cars to change a h/gasket on than an 8v saxo engine ,--look round for a better quote?

heating not working --is there water inside the car on floor --if so heater matrix has gone + that has probably caused the h/gasket failure -- not an easy or cheap job to fix-- or is it just frozen up?

heater not working is due to the head gasket failure, not the other way round lol. the heater stops working due to combustion gases entering the cooling system via the head gasket and effectively air locking the cooling system

Isnt the VTR a heavier engine? and doesnt it have a different exhaust and suspension and brakes? I think its a good idea to put the 1.4 engine in. Theres a furio engine on here. Just a hassle changing the loom and ecu.

yes yes i understand that the gasket going has knackered the heating, just wondering if a new engine will sort this out no problems.

i dont know any mechanincs mate, the quote was from the guy my mum has always taken the car too, she trusts him so took his word for it :$

and also, their is no water in the floor.

so best idea i can see is get a quote for an engine install then (1.4)

also, is the 1.1 mpi or spi or variable?

i find it all confusing !!!
