changed brakes. question

    Hi,

Just got my mechanoc to fit two new front discs, new rear pads, and bleed the brakes.

He advised me to drive it for a bit before they 'fit' properly and are fully functioning..

Can somebody explain what this means exactly and, how long this roughly takes (miles),

    cheers!

Bedding in.. the disks are machined with oil and other stuff so it doesn't break their gear when manufacturing. Also the pads will have stuff on when they're made. They need to bind to the shape of each other to get maximum friction therefore maximum braking efficiency. 200 miles of gentle braking does the trick

    thanks mate!

200 miles is a lot, I have the mot in a few days, and cant really drive that far without mot.

Pedal feels like it has a bit of excessive play, hope this goes away after the 'bedding-in', as this is what I was failed on in mot last week.

If it failed on brake efficiency you'll be fine buddy

Even without bedding in they should be good enough to pass an MOT.

If they don't then they need to be fixed anyway really

yea i know what u mean mate,

tbh its not the mot im worried about, its not being able to stop sufficiently at 60mph on the motorway sumday!
