266mm brake upgrade

  1. #1
Hi just a quick one I've looked in the FAQ's and am after a bigger set of brakes. the one's I'm interested in is a 266mm brake set up. I understand the 283's are bigger / better but they're more expensive and I'm a tight git lol.

Basically am I right in thinking you just need calipers / discs / pads?

    Thanks
    Ryan

    yes!
Its only the 283mm that have a yoke to space them out

I'm so confused. Wtf is a 'mounting bracket' anyway?

When people say 'caliper', it's usually a given that the pad carrier (i.e. the bit with the bolt holes in) is included.

With that in mind you just need calipers, pads and discs. Job done.

On the gti6 calipers there is what they call a yoke.
This is an extra part to the caliper which basicaly converts the caliper from a 266 one to a 283 one.
Peugeot sell them seperatly at around £120 the pair!
266 dont need them and will bolt straight on, but may require a touch of grinding to make them fit

They're just a caliper/carrier set-up like any other PSA car. I think you've mis-understood what I meant by 'pad carrier'. In any case, let's put to bed any idea that there are 3 components in their construction.

The GTi6 calipers are physically different from 266mm ones. The whacking big '57' printed on the top gives them away, indicating the larger piston.

    Look here -

Everything in that photo is all you need. Regardless of what it's called.

Lol yes, Mikol is correct, having bought the 283s conversion and done it to my car, all you need is new discs, pads and calipers.
