Car won't start

Im sure it's because of the cold weather were currently having (I think Newcastle is one of the places hit the hardest).basically I'm turning the key and nothing at all, it's not even turning over?? I thought it might be a problem with battery, but I've topped up the fluid and had it on charge over last night and still the same problem. It is possible the starter motor may be affected by the snow etc?

Is anyone else having the same problem?

    Cheers

Have you tried turning on your lights, or the heater fan to see if the battery is giving out any current?

    jump start?

As above, ign on, put on lights/heated window etc and try your wipers. Are they moving very slow?

Cold kills batterys unfortunately so charging it over night may not help if it is not capable of HOLDING the charge.

Cold will not damage starter motor, I am sure it is battery from what you have said.

(Note a dying battery might still have power for small current items like lights on but will not be able to turn the engine over)

It doesn't do anything, I turn the key and absolutely nothing, just a clicking sound from the starter motor (I assume). Bastard snow is killing my car

Yea mine was working sweet on Tuesday, went and filled up tank etc. Then went to get in Wednesday morning and nothing. Totally frustrating!!

You reckon topping up anti-freeze in radiator will help?

Had the same problem, my battery wouldn't hold any charge, if that is the case just get a new battery. Only cost me £35

Easy test just try jump leads from another car and if it starts fine with plenty of oomph then a new battery is needed.

My old man has a battery charger that uses for battery for his boat, had it on that over night, I disconnected it and reconnected it and it was showing as fully charged. I also topped up battery water and reconnected it to my car and tried it and nothing? Gutted!

Just out of curiosity, where you pick up new battery for £35? Just everywhere I've been looking is between £50-£60?

NB: just been and checked lights, heater etc and all working fine, so defo not battery. Must be starter motor?
