Car cuts out below 1k rpm now Engine Light on

Basically car wouldn't start yesterday so jump started it.

Starts but then cuts out below 1k rpm. Jumped it again so kept revs above 1k and took it for a spin.

All going alright until at some lights, they turn green and now the car doesn't pull, vibrating and shaking like mad and sounds like a tank. Engine light flashing.

Managed to get it home and started it up again and now sounds normal, doesn't vibrate or shake. Don't know how it drives but still cuts out below 1k and now the engine light is always on.

    1. Any ideas what the he'll is going on?

    2. Anyway to work out what the light means without dishing out aloud of monies?

    Cheers

If it was like mine and sounds like a v8, then it may be something to do with your valves

cos something about not having the same pressure through the engine, so air is jumping about in the gaps, causing it to shake. Plus thats why youre not pulling away as fast. I thought i'd be okay at traffic lights but i stalled.

    -my guess

I had this problem, engine management light flashes when you can damage the cat. Then mine decided to run on two cylinders, sounding like youve described. Was the battery mate, thats all. Needed a new one, cold must of killed it.

I'd hazard to guess it was a dirty Idle air control valve, take it out and give it a blast with some brake cleaner.

Cheers guys, I'll give them a try.

Will the light go off when the problem is resolved or will it stay on?
