Tighter Gears

  1. #1
Own a vts and am wanting the gears to be shorter/tighter, have heard of people using quickshifts and stuff. But cant decide what to go for, also have the keypad immobliser if that affects the fitting of a quickshift.. am in need of someone to point me in the right direction of what to go for..

    cheers

There is no OEM gear clusters with closer ratios than the VTS. The only options are custom made clusters use by many for race and rally. These are however not cheap and normal excessively close for road use. Custom boxes like this should also be matched to your engine spec to get any advantage out of them.

There are shorter ratios final drives available in many of the smaller engine vehicles. Some of the TU engine BXs as well as the AX 4x4 are some of the shortest. Many people fit shorter final drives or boxes with shorter final drives however there are some down sides. As you can imagine they can be some what detrimental for motorway driving. You also find that some of the shorter boxes are actually to short with out complimentary tuning of the engine. You can can actually end up going slower if you go to short. Though some people just like the fun of having to franticly change gear.

If your talking a quick shift as in simply a short throw gear linkage there are plenty available. On responsive race spec engines they can help speed up gear changes. On a normal road car they will not really do anything for you but some like the feel and or possibly novelty of them.

Same.. but has gone back to wobbly gear stick again. i know this is due to the pin being worn but has bin drilled and bolt fitted just one of linkages is worn. but to me the travel from like 1st to 2nd is massive so hopefully adding a b&m quickshift will shorten it and tighting it all up once got new linkages again
