Tesco Momentum 99 RON Petrol (Results)

    Hi,

Not sure if this will be of interest, or if this been posted before, but Tesco have done some tests with their 99 RON 'Momentum' petrol against standard 95 RON Tesco dishwater.

Info can be found here: www.tesco.com/Momentum99/

They tested a range of cars (modern cars in fairness) to see what effects their 99 RON fuel had on MPG and performance.

Short if it is that with Momentum they saw improved MPG and improved BHP and Torque figures over 95 RON fuel.

    Worth a read

    Cheers.

Interesting. I tend to use this every so often in the Vengabus

    Not really a scientific test.

Could just run the engines on a dyno with the std calibration and measure the difference in the BSFC.

Apparently its the best supermarket 99 ron petrol

My VTR really doesn't like the 99 RON Tesco stuff lol

when i put that in my car it runs fine for about 1 day then the engine management light comes on .

Shell V Power makes my EML come on, how bizzare, brings up cyl 4 injector fault every time i have ever tried it. Normal unleaded is fine?

They did this test on Top Gear it only works if you put it in a new car for the first time on old cars that were already using unleaded it either made them bog or nothing changed

Ill see if i can find the vid

When i had my saxo, if i switched to using tesco99 or v-power it used to take a good couple of tanks for the car to stop running crap. Never had the EML or miss fires, just didn't feel like it was rev'in as freely. But after that it would be nice and smooth going through the rev's.

My car used to lap the Total 97 stuff up, always ran nice and smooth on it.

rubbish, there will be very little if any difference at all on a totally standard every day car. they are mapped to run on sub 95 octane and even with this 'adaptive ecu' thing it still won't change.

IF you fill up with higher octane and then advance the igntion timing then yes you will see a difference but you won't do that too easily on a modern car!

I had my car mapped on v-power, the problem with that is now that because i'm making the most of the higher octane fuel i have to use it all the time, as on 95 octane it 'pings'

I just read my saxo's manual (I know, not a manly thing to do!) and it says to run on 95octane but 97octane would be better, not too sure if its going to help performance though.

    You mean it detonates.

I tend to use the Tesco fuel 99% of the time.

Problem with the Tesco one down my store, the petrol has condensation in it and smokes like a bitch.. Tend to stay off that now.. Decimate V Power though throttle response and MPG without a doubt better

Whooooom did your V-Power mapping? - I want some of that, I use V-Power anyway cos I like the 3x bonus points with my extra bonus bonus card bonus?

Use Momentum more than Vpower tbh as its 1 octane higher and its 3p a litre cheaper.

im sure ive heard that saxos dont benefit from 99 ron petrol, im sure its up to 98 it can only see the benefits from, correct me if im wrong but maybe thats why your saxo's eml comes on?

Ill look into this, as I want to use a widely available high octane fuel for a high comp competition engine, rather than buy VP fuel by the barrel!
