Important! : Engine Overheating, No Hot Air??? Help lol

  1. #1
Basicly the car is overheating ( was fine on water level untill it overheat now its just above minimum), mite have something to do with cold conditions?

and also my hot air on the heater ( rest of heater works fine eg. feet, window and cold air ) just not getting any hot air through.

its not the head gasket as i have checked and its no the ignition barrel re-wire thing as the power steering and read window de-mister also works?

the cars a v reg mk2 vtr ( model with the mk1 engine, rad, inlet etc)

    what use think?
  2. #2
How did you check the head gasket?
  3. #3
took oil cap cover off and its imaculately clean, not a trace of water
  4. #4
    Maybe your thermostat is gone?
  5. #5
also after i overheat it i let it cool then drove another 15miles home in which it didnt overheat but the heaters still wernt hot?
  6. #6
so i think that illiminates the thermostat as it would have just overheated again?

What do you mean by rest of the heater works fine? It blows cold air but not warm? Or it blows warm air to everywhere but the dash vents?

You need to do a compression test at least buddy, the mayo on the oil cap is only an indication.

It's got all the symptoms of head gasket failure...

Thermostat can get stuck in 2 positions, Open, or closed....if it's Open then fine it's less likely to overheat - if it's closed this is when you can have over heating problems as it's not allowing the water to circulate and cool.

I would seriously take the thermostat out and inspect it and test it (bowl of boiling water, drop it in, if it pops open it's fine, if it sits there and does nothing, it's f.ucked"

Check your water - if it's turning a creamy custard like colour or consistency then it's almost 100% definately your head gasket.

the water and the head both look fine to me and clean enuff, and i meant there is no hot air going to any of the vents, but it is getting cold air at all speeds, its not asiff its not working completely, its just u get cold air when you put it to hot and cold air when u put it to cold

    ??????????
  11. #11
    OK

Erm Id try bleeding it (with coolant) - with a header bottle.
  12. #12
could it be that its just needing bled?
    shurely not?

ill give it a try and get back as i think a few people are having problems
  13. #13
    anyone else got an opinion?
  14. #14
Think i have it sused, was sitting thinking for a while lol

    1. Head gasket hasent gone as i have checked it and no sign off mixing
    2. Radiator isnt leaking as the radiator is peresurising itself and wouldnt be able to if there was a leak.
    3. if the radiators presurising its self then there must be a blockage in the system
    4. Bleed Screw on Top right of rad isnt releasing water which means waters going in but not returning, hence presurising it and overheating
5.in my eyes this means the thermostat is knackerd, so going to take it out tomorow and run without untill i get 1
    then re blead the system

question is im at my house and the saxos at my girlfriends house as i abandoned it there when it overheat, anyone able to tell me the sizes of tools ill need to take up with me
  15. #15
    anyone?
  16. #16
turns out it was the thermostat and needed bled, so removed the thermostat and rebuilt it, then bled it in order, rad then stat valve then cam valve, runs perfect now nover goes above halfway on thermo guage and heaters work perfect

excess pressure in the cooling system is a sign of an airlock in the cooling system, air locks can easily be caused by a failed head gasket leaking compression gases into the coolant. common misconception that all head gasket failures cause mayo, also a common misconception that all cars with mayo need a head gasket change.

yes but i removed the thermostat and bled the radiator and its perfect now, better than it has ever been lol
  21. #21
    A bleed should fix it.
