Important! : car wont start at all :(

   well the morning the car wouldnt blow hot air through the heaters, and the car was over heating for a 20 minute drive to work, then on the way home the same but the water light came on on the dash. the cars got full water and oil btw.
   
   when i took my missus home (12 miles) the car started making a ticking noise around 11 miles into the journey and kept cutting out everytime i stopped at lights and junctions for the last mile.
   
   when i got to her house the car smelt of burning and the fan was on so turned the car off for half hour to cool abit.
   
   then decided to try and get home, same thing water light on, no hot heaters, over heating engine, about a mile then the ticking came back, so pulled over turned it off for ten minutes and the ticking went when i started it again.
   
   then half a mile down the road it came back and got louder n louder was doing 35mph in 5th gear on a 60mph road and an astra came right up me backside so pulled into the layby still rolling at 15mph, let him past, put my foot back on the accelerator and the car cut out and wouldn't start at all after that, so after 2 hours of waiting for recovery i'm finally home and need to be in work at 8 in the morning so any help on what the problem could be would be much appreciated :Y:

   sounds to me like frozen water pipes and because it was driven while overheating has blown headgasket / pistonrings fried so pos new engin is my guess

   it had brand new head gasket about 5 months ago if that brand new radiator about 10 months ago if that helps, i dont see how a frozen water pipe would stay frozen for 20 mins though in a hot engine bay? and that wouldnt explain why all of a sudden it wont start because it was running fine rev and response wise then just cut out and wouldnt start again

   yep basically but up until i pulled in and went to take off it was runnin alright, started fine when i left my girlfriends and after the little ten minute stop so dont get why it just decided to not start

   fairs sounds reley odd the onley thing i can think is maby a fuse or the hot engine has melted some wireing

   And its randomly started second try this morning but still no hot air gettin in the car

   Like Tom Lloyd said first, for some reason you decided to drive it will all the signs of an overheating engine
   
   Do a compression test - there probably isnt any
   
   Head off, check the gasket, pistons + rings..
   
   Should have topped up the coolant + bled it while you had chance.

   well 2, 2litre bottles of antifreeze, 2, 2litre bottles of water, a new thermostat, a sheered bolt, a snapped drill bit and me n 2 of my mates frozen from half 10 in the morning till 5pm and weve come to a conclusion deadly sure its the water pump so going to have a look at it on saturday

    you should not have put water in with the anti freeze and it should have been decent anti freeze not cheap shite i got the -36 shite and i,m ok, last yeer wasn't though i got -10 shit and head gasket went. :/ not amused. this year i was prepared...this sounds the same as last year with my car, keep us posted mate. good luck! & not bad little 2 tone you got there buddy!     cheers mate and found out cylinder heads buggered and head gaskets gone again probably because when it was last done the skim needed alot because it was warped badly so might be at its final point so besically a new engine looks on the cards
