New "Orange" Airbag lead

  1. #1
Right i've had a search but didnt come up with nothing but a while ago, i changed my seats in my VTR to GTI Leather. But the "orange leads" in my car were different to the lead on the GTI seats, so i did a bit of a bodge job, but not going in to that Light has been on since then!

Ive had a few days off, and with my MOT coming up i dont want the light on as its a fail isnt it? and i want it sorted, so can i just buy the lead that connects onto the seat tensioner thing, and into the car?

    That make sense?

    Cheers

you mightve bodged the wires the wrong wat around, i did this and my lighty came on, when i swapped them back, i.e. blue to blue & brown to brown the light went off

    it wont fail anyway mate
  5. #5
Shouldnt be a fail mate, mine was on during an MOt and they put it on the advisory. Mine passed with it on

unplug the control box behind the gearlever under the carpet.

lights will never bother you again
  7. #7
airbags not a fail, sure some cars dont even have any
if he fails u DECK HIM

swap the pretensioners to the ones from your original seats. its only one bolt. this way its just like you've plugged in the standard seats again. Failing this do what i did and solder a 3ohm resistor to each wire from the carpet. it will make the system think its connected

Cheers, ive got a couple of days of next week so will take the seats back out and have a go at using my old wires on them and see if that solves it

    Cheers

not a fail but insurance must be informed as far as i know hope this helps
  11. #11
as said it not a fail mine has gone through 2 mot's now and passed there is the tape method you can also just remove the bulb or you can solder a resistor to the wires to mimic the pretentioners but i havent got a clue what size the resistor is im sure its on here somewhere
  12. #12
Take the pretensioner unit from your vtr seats and swap them onto the Gti seats.
    That's the no bodge way

sorry mate to drag this up i just got some vts air bagged seats , on my furio there is just one orange wire , underneath on the vts airbagged ones you have one single orange wire and another wire which is orange again but another one attached to it green / yellow , any ideas how to wire this up so i can still have my front air bag working cheers

Can't you just use the old pretensioner unit with its wires? did it this way and i havn't had any problem.

Really? I thought the new MOT laws meant that if the light was on, the car failed...

if ANY lights are on the dash which are permanently on which should go out, it will fail.

    EML
    Airbag
    Handbrake/low fluid warning

Will also fail if certain lights don't work i.e the blue high beam warning light and the fog warning light.

Some testers do miss these things though!

EML shouldn`t fail, abs is another fail though.

I must of just been lucky then! The light has been on scien i bought the car! Got to rember to disconnect it for the next M.O.T

ABS, the mainbeam and foglight telltale lights not working are fails.

cars fitted with electric power steering, ESP, brake fluid warning lights ( unless reservior below minimum), tyre pressure monitors, air bags lights and seat belt pre-tensioner warnings, handbrake lights and EML lights are still advisories until 1st april 2013

i may have missed a couple of things...

this will see alot of cars unfortunately come off the road

pffffft I knew it was something like that

    damn MoT rule changes!
  25. #25
Well if the airbag (steering wheel one) is there form factory but you use a resistor so the light works just like normal it should pass right?
  26. #26
the lights should come on when the ignition is on, and stay on for a few seconds when started then extinguish.

however, if the light stays on, it is an MoT advisory for now until the 1st of april when they become a failure.
  27. #27
Yes,"light works just like normal" is exactly what you wrote in the 1st line, thanks for the infos.
  28. #28
if it lights up and then goes out, then there is no problem
