Quick coolant question.

  1. #1
Since getting the car i've not topped up my coolant (not used it that much).
I'm planning a long journey in the week and need it right.

I have no idea what coolant is in my car atm (either red or blue/green).
My question is, do i just buy some ready mixed one from some place and hope for the best or do i go out and buy 3lt's worth of red and have a coolant change done by a garage?

I remember when i had the fiat i just topped it up with ready mixed stuff that was compatible with all coolants :/

Any help would be great here, thanks

Neither .. drain and flush the system yourself, buy red and put it in with water 50/50

dont mix blue and red they react and corroded stuff
    reds good for 9 years
    blues good for 5 years

+bleed the cooling system afterwards if your not confident doing yourself a garage will only charge about £25-£30.

Is it possible to just flush the old coolant out and re-fill it with ready mixed stuff? or do i have to have 50% coolant 50% water?

    Steve.

I'll be getting a garage to do this. I made the mistake of doing it myself on my fiat. Half way down the motorway the coolant cap blew off. No ta haha

I don't trust ready mix. Its probably fine, but I think its better to mix yourself then you know its strong enough and not made with sewage water...
