I have no difficulty putting the car into gear but when I drive the car it jutters now and then and makes a loud banging noise at times. If you need additional information please ask but I'm not really sure what else to put until I have some ideas. If anyone has any suggestions on what it could be and they know prices of how much it approximately costs to get it fixed that would be a lot of help too, thanks.
Important! : Gearbox makes clunking noise when driving

#2Get the vehicle on axle stands(if you have them) and spin the wheels by hand to see if you can get the noise then trace it. If not then check drive shafts and bearings before moving onto gearbox as it may be a cheaper fix.

#3this sounds like the lower engine mount i had the some problem its not to bad to sort out.

#4Sounds more like the CV Joint in the Driveshaft. New Driveshaft time, not too expensive

#5thanks for all your replies...
Woody91: I'm sure I can get help of some axle stands but even using a jack I'll be able to test spinning the wheels, what shall I look out for when spinning the wheels though?
DKC23: would the lower engine mount cause the car to make a loud banging noise when moving in 1st and 2nd gear though? it sort of feels like the suspension is giving way as when I pull off it jogs the car
Domleydon: do you know rough prices of a fix for this? I don't really want to spend money on this if it doesn't sort the problem though.
Many thanks. -
#6it does cause the car to jolt and makes a loud bang when moveing off or excelerating fast. well that what my car did.

#7Depends what model car you got buddy, DS are around £60-80, fitting it is simple, or take it to a garage, around 1 hours labour so £40-50quid ish.

#8I would get an expert to check it over when its on axle stands to find out where the noise is coming from

#9thanks for all your help.
I've now got the car in a garage and found that the gearbox needs replacing as it is knackered and it also damaged the clutch and drive shafts so need them two replacing also. I've been quoted £600 for the lot including a second hand gearbox, new clutch, drive shaft and labour. -
#10I would say engine mount, as when your changing gear the engine obviously moves, and if the mount is slack or very worn it obviously will make the gearbox have more movement than it should, unless it is the lower mount which will mean a fair amount of engine rock during gearchange, and i know from experience a lower mount fucked or slack certainly makes a loud bang.
