Now then, the saxo is coming of the road in 3 weeks to get a colour change and shit loads of work, im just wondering how easy is it to remove a saxo engine, can any1 give me a rundown on the best steps of removal
Removing engine

#2IMO mate, If you need to ask how to do it...i wouldnt even consider attempting it
-
#3just draw a digram as your taking it out witch bit goes where . that what my mate did with his .
-
#4As above and take pictures. Piece of piss.
-
#5^^ but you will need slight mechanical knowledge or a mechanically minded friend.

#6ive done alot of vauxhall engine removals/conversions, im just wondering if theres any fiddly bits like gear linkages, nightmate bolts etc, i need to save as much time as poss as ive only got a 2 week window to remove interior, engine, all panels, then prepped painted, reassembled then alloys painted to, im not a amatuer ive done alot on vauxhall just not a saxo, the front end slam panel comes off the saxo so can they be lifted out the top cant they, vauxhalls have to be dropped out the bottom

#7Hi guys, apologies for hijacking the thread, but I'm doing exactly that, removing a 1.1i block for the 1st time. I'm not a mechanic, nor mechancially minded, but fancy having a go, as i've got quite a bit of spare time at the mo.
I think i've removed everthing that needs to be removed (radiator, slam panel, driveshafts, exhaust, gear linkages, cables etc etc) and now believe I've only got the engine mounts left, but I'm amazed at what appears to be holding the engine and box in !!!
I've attached pics of the engine bay and have circled in red what i think is left :-
1 bolt near n/s strut, under battery tray
3 bolts near o/s strut
2 bolts holding gearbox mount
. I'd appreciate any constructive advice
Thanks Kev

#8oh, forgot to say, i've obviously got an engine hoist !!!
-
#9You mean 3 bolts on the passenger side mount
-
#11Well you can drop it just taking off the main bolt, but from personal experience i remove the whole mount, while the engine is on the crane and remove the bracket on the gearbox, to make it easy to remove the engine out of the bay
-
#12So, if i just remove the bolt in the circle, it releases the mount from the car, but the actual mount is still attached to the gearbox by 2 other bolts. I can see 2 other bolts, but their access looks restricted by the bottom of the battery tray. I aim to remove the engine and box in one unit.Quote:Well you can drop it just taking off the main bolt, but from personal experience i remove the whole mount, while the engine is on the crane and remove the bracket on the gearbox, to make it easy to remove the engine out of the bay

#13The big one in the middle holds the engine/gearbox to the car, the 2 bolts next to it holds the mount to the car, so you CAN get the engine out by just removing the large boltQuote:So, if i just remove the bolt in the circle, it releases the mount from the car, but the actual mount is still attached to the gearbox by 2 other bolts. just make sure your crane, or w/e your using has the weight of the engine before removing mounts

#14So that's it, 6, (well 5 bolts if you remove the one at the back of the gearbox mount) bolts only hold the engine and box to the chasis ????

#16One thing Ive wondered here. Is it possible to lay an engine on its side on the floor then lift the front of the car up with jacks so that it comes down on top of the engine, then jack the engine up into place?
-
#18the easiest way is lay a rolling board under the engine and lower it onto the board then jack the front of the car up high so the engine will roll straight out, do the exact same thing when putting it back in. Mine was done like that but without a rolling board so it was slid lol.
-
#19I'd prefer to take it out with a hoist, somehow feels safer to me !!
-
#20Right, i've got the engine and box out in one, using a hoist, which was suprisingly easy, other than the loom being clipped to the back of the engine (which i'd missed) but after a bit of maneouveiring and help from my better half it's out.
Now I want to split the box to put on the new engine i've got, does anyone know what torx/bolt/allen key i need. don't want to bugger it up at this late stage
Cheers Kev -
#21about a 50ish. Just but the largest you can fit in it lol
-
#22They are 8mm hex bolts, and bloddy tight !!!

just 3 mounts, the engines are fairly light compared to other engines
