Questions about throttle bodies

    If you have lots of money then yes. If not just bang a VTS lump in.

    I do not had that much money lol.

    Any mods that will up the power coz I can't be bothered with a swap as it's my day car and I cant afford to not have it for a day

    I have about 600 give or take. Open to any ideas planning on getting a shortened gear stick and maybe groves discs

    Best get cams before bodies, unless you want that noise then yes get them but 600 will not get you much for cams and re map looking that, for best valve get a 16v matey

    I was thinking cams. As I said above I can't really afford to not have my car on the road and I don't have the equipment to do an engine swap at home moslty due to a gravel drive so I can't wheel the engine lift round

    better going for a engine swap, can have it done in a day if youve got it all there

    can do engine conversions in a day if your committed enough lol and no £600 wont get you anywhere

    if you buy some gsxr1000 bodies off ebay for about £100 then send them off to sandy/collin they make it up to a bolt on kit for £500 and then you'll need a new ecu the cheapest is the predator ecu at £500 then its a matter of fitting them

    BUT the get the most out of bodies you will want to cam it, on the cheap you can fit ph3 cams no problem, but to get the most power out the bodies you will want ph4 cams which require having your old pistons 'pocketed' for around £165 from sandy/colin or even better buy forged pistons at £500 and then after buying new gaskets, belts, water pump etc etc the engine will be ripped apart and will have to be rebuilt which is gonna cost a lot of labour etc etc so as you can see £600 wont get you far im afraid even just fitting cams and mapping will cost about a grand

    simplest option.... put a vts engine in there! lol cost me £300 for everything i needed iirc mandyslover sell everything you need for £400 which is a good price

    That sound good where did you get it done I live in Cambridge, does anyone know of a place near me that will do a swap?

    i did it myself mate not overly hard i didnt have any experience just had a mate telling me what to do lol like i said mandyslover sells evreything you need and he'll fit it hes about 100miles away from cambridge which isnt too far

    Hummm I'm tempted to do it myself if I make some space on my drive. There is an engine specialist near me which o have contacted and depending on the price I might have to do it myself lol.

    Its the best mod you can do tbh its also the best place to start if your going to do anything serious like throttle bodies etc.

    The thing that is playing on my mind is the legal side like telling the dvla and insurence etc. Will it increase the insurence and tax?

    Sell Vtr and use extra the £600 to buy a Vts with!

    Insurance companies don't like engine swops. (or most don't!), and may want an engineers report.

    You must declare the engine swop to the DVLA.

    If you want to keep an 8v and tune it then yes its worth it, but maybe I would find a 106 rallye engine instead.
    If you just want more power then usually the 16v is a better starting block.

    I would love to swap my engine to a 16V but the only reason I got a vtr is so tax and insurence would be lower that a Vts. And it kinda defeats the object if swap the engines over lol. This just dawned on me at college

    take £600 put it in te bank.

    Get some interest on it and add some more to it till you can afford to run a car with more power.

    yer but adding bodies will also increase the insurance aswell as cams and re maps, a remap will add the most normal, as with a conversion they know the standard power is 120 bhp, but soon as you say re map they are like we cant prove the power and they add loads on the insurance, so it might be cheaper to do a conversion.

    ring them up as say i might do this i might do that see what they come up with, but for power vs money valve for you a 16v conversion would be the best way to go.

    Bodies - £650
    Standalone ecu - £600 +
    mapping - £150
    Cams - £200
    Headwork - £300
    Gaskets/belts/headbolts replacement - £150
    Labour - £30+ per hour

    This is assuming exhaust/manifold/induction are sorted already

    Figures - Around 150bhp

    Vtr_Craig are you talking about mods on a vtr or Vts?

    I have money in the bank for a new car any I'm getting some extra money from work so I thought I would treat myself.

    150 for mapping it more 300 quid for mapping most places it about 80 quid an hour, and takes good 3to 4 hours for a full map.

    a waste of cash remapping a non boosted standard engine imo.

    There are gains but money is better spent elsewhere.

    Bike carbs are a cheaper way of doing it but ares soo much more unreliable!
