overheating

    hello.

i have a problem with my 1.4 mango badboy. i don't know what's wrong and i've searched sax-p forums and other people seem to have the same problem, but i can't find a solution for mine. what happens is my temperature light comes on after about 10 minutes of driving. the temperature has always been high which i think is normal for saxos but recently the temp light has been coming on and if i drive for too long then the car starts smoking (i only do that if i can't get a decent place to stop, i know i shouldn't) i got help changing the rad because it was completely corroded and i got a new thermostat then filled up with coolant and i can't seem to see why it keeps happening. i noticed the other day that my cooling fan didn't kick in but that was just a one off, for some reason, it seems to be working fine now which is pretty odd. also, the heating doesn't get warm which i've been told could mean the head gasket has gone (which is expensive?) but again, i don't know how to check. i'm not very good with cars really. any help would be appreciated as i can't find any from searching.

i only want it fixed enough to be able to sell because i need a 5 door car now.. or someone could just buy it off me

sorry for the essay, i tend to ramble without any sleep. thanks.

sounds like the head gasket mine did this. I was just goin though town and its over heated and blew loads of smoke out. I took my cylinder head off today and it was the head gasket.

    Bleed it!

Bleed the System before you start it again it sounds like you might have already done Some damage but bleed it before you start it, you might be lucky!!

if the heaters arnt getting warm that means that water isnt curculating around the engine right.
could need bleeding or it mint be a dodgy thermostat (even though its a new one it happens)
If the heads gone check the water see if its a murky brown colour is it pressurizing the baggings (water hoses)
Is there cream in the oil

tbh it sounds like your head gasket if its heating up quick, have a look under the oil filler cap for a mayo like substance and brownish oil

Ill have a look in the morning when I have some light and I'll try bleeding it as well. If the head gaskets gone then that could be expensive, right? I take it it's pretty straightforward to bleed it, I'm sure I can find a guide on here anyway, I'll search when I'm home. Thanks for the advice, I'll let you know what happens!

I agree with everyone else. Try bleeding it but if it keeps doing it then the headgasket has died.

If you need a new headgasket drop me a PM or email me through the site.

bleeding seems to have worked (i think). i will take it out later tonight to check properly but it was heating up waaaaaay faster before, even idling, which it isn't now. and my heaters are actually coming out warm. i checked under the oil cap but it didn't look like a mayo like substance to me so i guess it could be fixed now.

when i was bleeding though as soon as i opened any point then the water started to come out straight away, is that normal? i would've thought you had to wait at least a couple of mins before it started coming out.

anyway, will double check tonight by driving to asda or something, thanks alot for the help, hopefully it's fixed now and i can sell it. need a 5 door for the fam

Yeh the water coming out straight away can be normal. There could be air behind it.

Well done on fixing it mate

Same here, allthat was happening was the water from my radiator was going directly into my engine and mixing with oil, causing it to majorly overheat (ill let it off lol it did have 110k on it, so replaced the engine instead
