exhaust backfire

  1. #1
    Hey there,

I've got a question concerning exhaust backfire. I've got a saxo VTS16V myself. And it's modded with different camshafts, a sports-chip, k&n Filter, powerboostvalve and a complete exhaust system without any silencers.

I've got very little backfire in my exhaust. WHen I watch some of the movies on the saxperience site this cool saxo has tons of backfire!!! and I think it sounds really great. Any secret of how to enhance the backfiring a little?

    greetings from holland.

Hi, I got your mail earlier... (been having probs with saxperience mail for last week)

My car is a little different... it has a very large bore exhaust system with no CAT, etc. It also has the turbo which compresses and super-heats the exhaust gases.

The way to get pops/bangs/flames is get the exhaust gases as hot as possible and use a free flow exhaust system.

My turbo does this for me, and so I get the pops, etc as a side effect.

If you wanted to try and enhance this on your car, you could try and increase temps using exhaust manifold heat wrap.

The pops etc are promoted when at a weak air/fuel ratio... such as my car on over run. I'm not suggesting you do it... but a tiny air leak in one of the gaskets would also give more pops..

    Hey there!,

I've allready got a freeflow system without cat. I'll try the wrapping around the manifold. Maybe it will help. I saw a few of your clips and it sounds awsome. I've got a exhaust system made by musketier. As you saw on the picture one with a pipe on each side of the car.

Mine also pops when the exhaust the engine and exhaust are at a decent temperature... but not that much... and little more would be great!!

Mine pops when it's cold, without S/charger. I have a full straight through system.

Heard something about putting spark plugs in the exhaust?

spark plugs in the exhaust? ofcourse.. another option is to put some gunpowder in there.

putting spark plugs in the exhaust will not make it pop anymore!!!!!

If you wanted decent flames from the exhaust you would do this (plamer kits???) as the spark burns off any excess fuel and gases flowing through the exhaust but by simply adding a spark plug to the exhaust popping will not be increased

i've got an exhaust system with a pipe on each side. one of my friends suggested It might help if I would change it to one singe exhaust?

To be honest mate it realy wouldnt make that much differance, that fact is, if you want it to pop and i mean pop not just burble then you need to do a hell of a lot to your car eg turbo.. ive got the same exhaust as simo and yes mine does pop but its not a proper pop like simos, i think if you want that then you had better get your cheque book out

it's all down to deccelaration fuel cut off, the stnd ecu shuts the injectors off almost completely so this uses less fuel and you get better MPG.

My ecu lets my have this option on so it pops like fuck and makes real bangs, but as danny said even for one of these your looking at at least 700 quid plus fitting and mapping.

A dastek might do the trick if you tell the person mapping it to map it with DFCO..

hmmm,... I've got a superchip in my car. But I heard dastek is much better. What's the price of this kind of chip? As a dutchman I'd like the price in euro's

he as a duchtman i can tell you it will cost about 600 euro's with fitting
