    On a disk brake?
The end of the cable passes through the arm part.
Just along from that it sits in a hollow, the end of the coverd part has like a ribbed ferral on it. This is the part that gets stuck, you need to use a hammer and drift to knock it out.
It can take a fair amount of persuading.
If you have a new cable in front of you, you will understand.
When refitting smear the ferral with copper slip.
