droning noise

   My vtr has been producing a droning noise for about a year.It only does this occasionally and I have tried everything to stop it.It does it one day then not the next and does it on dual carriageways when driving it a straight line with gentle acceleration.then next day same place no noise!!!!
   Anyone any idea what it could be as i have checked the obvious as it increases in drone cycle when i speed up.
   Hard to describe the noise but its not one constant noise but goes off and on every second or so

   Sounds very much like wheel bearing issues but after a year it should be very loud and obvious - strange.

   Any clicking knocking etc

   Yup as it only made the noise a couple of times a week I didnt think it was something to worry about and was waiting till it became constant and louder but it hasnt.

   it could be the box on its way out if its like a whining noise or wheel bearing... my box is whining so far ive done well over 10k on it

   Sounds like the drive shaft mid bearing?

    yeah through every gear luckily ive done 10k and hope to do another if lady luck is on my side im a stingy bloke like that
