Ashley backboxes...

  1. #1
    Anyone have one or have had one?
    Experiences with them?
    Going to buy one on sunday with a supersprint race section....
    Whats the noise levels like?
    Does it pop bang etc?
    Any performance increase?
    At the minute i have sportex racetube and backbox, can tell the difference when accelerating, very noisey, also pops and bangs
    I Dont mind it, just slightly over loud.

    Ashley are cheap
    Have a good rep for power on pugs & cits

    The are loud for straight through

    Good bangs for your bucks
  3. #3
    Dont know if im wrong but I thought that ashley back boxes were louder than sportex and I think that they are near the same back box.

    That is cheap compared to Kam , saxsport or Magnex

    All are £240 +

    So £155 is a bargain

    Where from ?
  6. #6
    Loud , badly made, bad fit and cheap metal to make them.

    I had one many years ago on an mg metro, used to be in strine way newport alot in it,if doing long distances you had to take paracetamol with you as you would get a head ache.
    Think i put up with it for 2 monthes before i spent alot of money on a janspeed system which was far better in every way.

    I would steer clear of ashley

    You are a fool to spend £155 on a back box when a full Ashley is £169

    As the man says ashley is cheap , but can make good power

    If your car is a 1.1 you are pissing in the wind

    I've heard the ashley backboxes are a pain to get sitting right,that's why i bought a sportex for my vtr when i had it,sounded ok and sat in recess fine,now I'm not sure what make backbox is on my vts but its not as loud but 100% more bearable

    I had one yes for about 5 month before i got my 2" Supersprint backbox, the sound wasnt bad but all i can say is the fitment is absolutely wank haha, the hangers on the backbox itself are far too big, the backbox will practically hang about 6/7 inch of their recess, i didnt have de-cat on the car when i was running that system so didnt hear it's full potential.

    Heres a video of a VTS with De-cat/Supersprint Race Centre Section/3" Ashley Competition Backbox;

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=In-mRg0hlYs

    Heres a picture of mine when i had it before i adjusted it with tie wraps, sits awful dude;

    Compare the two systems with a video dude, only way to find out but not putting you off or anything but the fitment of the Ashley backbox is wank .

    Tie wraps or very short length exhaust rubber mounts, i used powerflex exhaust mounts and then tie wraps which brought the exhaust up, urmm it sat like this from sidewards point of view;

    Just relised, i have a video of the Supersprint Race Centre Section/Ashley 3" Competition Backbox 'BEFORE' i de-catted my car and got a new backbox;

    NOTE; Thats after powerflex exhaust rubber mounts and tie wraps were used.

    sounds good though

    Ashley do not sound good at all!

    The reason they sit well on some cars and not others is down to poor build quality and inspection when being made.

    Cant see how you can magnex one of the biggest names in aftermarket exhausts are poor!
    They are worlds apart from an ashley system,

    I woulnt put one any where near my car.
    Overly loud, badly made and from cheap materials.

    Look at the replys in this thread and make your own mind up.
  21. #21
    Hmm dont know what to do now lol
  22. #22
    id leave it and save the money for a better system. save for the super sprint manifold and saxsport/supersprint system.

    Magnex are an awful make? lmfao what? Theyre one of the most proven exhausts for the saxo.

    £340ish a few year ago, and considered one of the best built systems, good quality and last long etc. Good results, not overly loud.

    Unless you want a ripspeed backbox?

    Or have I just been tricked by my favourite talent of sarcasm as that is a very silly statment you made lol

    He ain't deluded is he, each to their own in my opinion, personally i think the Saxsport system sounds poor, it sounds too tinny compared with the Supersprint but that's my opinion.
  28. #28
    piper backbox with a supersprint centre senction is what i've got and sounds sweet, but only when u put ur foot down, not much of a drowning noise and soon it will have a decat 3.5" sit in the recess perfect but some people think that's to big which is fair enough. it's down to what you like. and btw i fitted the supersprint section and the piper box in just over half and hour and it was so easyyyy! just went together perfect

    comparing Ashley to sportex is a huge mistake

    Sportex and ashley are 2 different companys, and ashley have a better reputation, where-as sportex are a "cheap" manufacturer for people who want the sounds, but in theory no real gain(s) compared to more expensive aftermarket systems, Sportex also dont sound as good as ashley - as said, there for people who just want the sound of a loud car.

    An opinion on sound and looks wize cant be deluded, but saying a company that has by far the best reputation as shit is deluded.

    Fair enough that's your opinion, but Magnex are by far the more established well renowned company.

    Saying that I don't like the way they look or sound!

    I agree with this. I have just had a full cat back system fitted by John Ashley himself. These are tried and tested. They are both designed on car so fit well.

    How much power did you get ? How loud is it ?
  36. #36
    my ashley was great. you have to adjust the hangers once its been fitted to the car to get it sitting right, mine sat perfectly using nothing but the standard ashley hangers and citroen rubbers.
    i had mine on my vts with a sportex straight through and it sounded awesome, if not a little bit too loud. it only went to be replaced by a btb

    i got ashley backbox with supersprint centre. like the sound and not overly loud on a de cat system.
    and as said above i managed to adjust mine to fit the recess fine just adusting hangers and on standard rubbers. doesn;t poke out too much as thats adjustable too.
    got mine second hand too at around £50 if i can remember but really like it.

    Yours is a Magnex mate.

    Iv had Magnex's on all my saxo's and I have had 4 of them. Always spot on, no problems, not too loud, fit spot on and look good and not over the top. Also on Piebobs VTS its pops and sounds sweet.

    Would highly reccomend them. When they where going (before went bust) you had a lifetime garantee with them. And I think the exhaust would outlast any car. Can prob pick one up cheap 2nd hand now too.
