1.1 Gearbox on VTS

  1. #1
Really struggling to find a VTS gearbox, but a local fitter has a 1.1 box in. I know the diff's are meant to be weaker but surely only the same as the VTR box as that's gone on mine!!

Anyone got a VTS with a 1.1 box?

not me, but just sayin that i dont think it would last 5 minutes m8

plenty of people are running 1.1 boxes on S engines, driven sensibly they'll last even on tuned engines, drive like a tool and any gearbox will destroy itself eventually

Been mentioned in loads of threads.

I had one. Used it hard, but with mechanical sympathy, still lives.

of course it will work, it will just rev higher at higher speeds unlike the S box... like what has been said... it will last if its used right and not ragged around with no sympathy

You sound like someone who has been too influenced by other peoples views rather than expressing your own

Thanks for the comments though guys

mines been going 5 months. yes, its an R and not an S, but they're still more powerful than the 1.1

worth doing mate, as i couldn't find a vtr box myself!

Irrc vtr and vts have the same sports diff.

I have a VTR box at the moment and the diff is going, same happened to Scott's VTR so they can't be that sporty :\

i used one for a while when my vts box was being rebuilt for a quaife.

it did several track days and had no problems.

i think its just drag style starts that kills them.

and goons wheel spinning in the snow lol, diffs really don't like that. One wheel gets tractiondiff can't cope with shock loading, kaboom, nasty smell of gearoil, big holes where bits of diff bust through casing!!

I remember reading that the 1.1 gave better acceleration lower down the revs than a 1.6 box? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

yeah i currenty run a vtr 16v with a 1.1 box, it gets a hardish life but i only use it now and again as its my toy but the gearbox has held fine. you will notice a good differnace in acceleration much faster than a vtr or vts box
