Engine management light on!

  1. #1
    Hi all,

I have 2003 plate VTR, whilst driving along yesterday an orange light just appered on my dash (im sure its the engine management light).

I gather from looking at threads on here i need to take it to a garage and get a Fault code for it??? Does anyone know how much it will cost to get the fault read???

Also am i Ok to drive with this light on or am I best to get it seen to asap??
The car sounds and drives the same as it was?

in the last 18 months I have had all parts of exhaust changed including Lambda sensors, a new cat converter, Cambelt change, and new battery put in 2 weeks ago so unsure what could be wrong?? any ideas on what trhe light normally comes on for???

    Thanks in advance Sean.

Refuelled is right shouldn't be no more then £20, and in connection with your post, despite having new sensors and a battery the cold weather plays havoc with sensors basically screwing them, it could be the stupidest sensor ever, my EML light came on the other week as i went over a island of ice in the middle of the road, snagged the o2 sensor bingo the eml was on until i got a new one.

well it will drive but its best to get it read, the garage to tell you which sensor and then buy it and fit it if its a simple sensor

Depends where you go, most of the garages near me charge £40-£50 for a diagnostic test to be done.
    £20 seems rather cheap?

My management light was on when I had my old furio, I knew the car was fine so assumed it was just a dodgy sensor.
Drove around for a 6 months with it on, was fine

Get the diagnostic done but I wouldnt worry too much.
If nothing flags up, get them to reset the light and see if it comes on again

+1 £20 is cheap , most garages in my area charge £35 - £50 , plus if nothing does come up when its plugged in theres always insulation tape over the LED

Where abouts in the UK are you? If the car is running fine then my guess would be post-cat lambda sensor..

there is a trick to turn it off, holding in the two pins to reset the mileage tip or something like that

i was told (mine came on) and did that and it worked, but that was months ago and cant remember what i did

^^ car was fine aswell as it just passed MOT and it had a service the week before.

I have my own diagnostic computer, muwhaha!

I do offer a service to read the ecu and turn off the light for saxp members in SW!

If your not concerned what the code was, you could just unplug your battery for half an hour, that would erase any stored error codes from the ECU

I have just unclipped the battary, il give it an hour and stick it back on, have a little drive down the street and see if it lights up again

re-connected battary and the light is still on. will nip it in to garage some point this week.

Had this recently, found out the cat converter was faulty. Luckily enough, covered by guarantee

Had the diagnostic done few weeks back, I paid £20. That's a lot just to plug a laptop in the car and print a diagnostic sheet.
