just been out to try and fit the new starter to the diesel starter and the one the motor factor sold me has more teeth on it than the one i have, is this ok or is this from a different model

    thanks

I think diesel and petrol startes are different, I could be wrong, But Im sure The petrol ones are the same on the 1.1, 1.4 & 1.6 !

thanks dan, you can see right away there is more on the new starter without counting them, the starter is catching ever time you can hear it spinning when you turn the key, try it a second time and it sometimes works then it will catch, ah well back to the shop with it

Yeah If its not the same amount of teeth then it couldnt be right, If there more they'd have smaller gaps so they wouldnt catch with the flywheel exactly right

just hope it is the starter at fault,,checked the flywheel for missing teeth and its fine so fingers crossed

If your new starter has a different number of teeth to the original it will not mesh with the flywheel teeth properly and will jam

ok the bloke in the motor factor foned his suplier with my concern, and they guaranteed it will fit..
we will see tomorrow when i fit it

just finished fitting it , at -10 temprature outside on my driveway,,,damm cold

anyway good news is i looked at the cogs again and although the was a difference in teeth there was also a difference in size, the one with less teeth was smaller,,so i fitted it, turned the key and it is spot on,,
so far this week that a new radiator due to the old one being frozen and bursting brand new battery and now new starter,,
so hopefully thats it so far,,

car did sail through its mot last month with an advisory on the rear axle bearing, but ill wait till warmer weather to change the axle...
