on my mk1 99 saxo vtr 1.6 iv noticed the hub nut is dented into the drive shaft, im guessing this is to stop it from self loosening/tightening,my question is if i replaced the bearings does this nut effect how loose/tight the bearing will feel? if i tightened it all the way up FT Tight would it crush the bearings and cause premature wear? im prety sure its a yes but need to be sure, thanks

#2the indent in the nut is indeed to stop it from working loose. When you put it back on tighten to the torque recommended in the haynes manual ( around 184lbft I think, which is pretty tight)and it will be fine.best to use a new nut of the indents look cracked or bent sharply

#3ok so the thing is, can this nut be over tightend and cause damage to the bearing? iv heard on some cars you get a tapered bearing, and on others you can get completly sealed bearings which can get tightened up as much as you like and wont damage/ crush the bearing.

#4right just found out what the problem is!! we replaced the driveshaft with one that has a tapered end and not the flat end! which the old 1 had, {they looked identical when we fitted them}, can i just replace the bearing to suit the taper on the new driveshaft? or will the hub have to be changed aswell? thanks..
