vtr rough power?

  1. #1
hello my gf just picked up a saxo vtr mk1 with a mk2 silvertop it has a 421 with a straight through system. i was wondering at a rough estimate what sort of power it would be running. im not up on how well the vtrs respond to exhaust work.

    thanks in advance all.

All depends, a decent exhaust on a healthy engine might net you a few bhp, maybe 5 on a good day, a cheap exhaust can loose power - you need the correct mix of flow, back pressure and bore size.

i have vtr and when dynod on janspeeds dyno it made 93 bhp at the wheels roughly 110-115bhp at fly. it had 421 mani decat straight threw induction and ported throttle body. its a mk1 so had 90 at the fly when standard. so an anser to your question is yes they love breathing mods

Sure it's not just an mk1 silvertop? Seems pointless doing a conversion for 8bhp tbh.
If not I reckon 105 is about right, highly doubt you will see 115bhp (nearly vts power!) with just a 4-2-1 and a decat.

all depends if its got the cat underneath still or if the mk2 exhaust was also fitted when the 4-2-1 was fitted on the mk 2 engine to decat it

It says it's got a 4-2-1 and a straight thorough lol, where could the cat possibly be?

lol sorry missed that some how near dead asleep but not going bed yet lol

I think, iirc, this question has been asked twice ..... no..... three times before

No way a vtr even a mk2 would get that much power from just exhaust system and air filter!!

    true that, no chance

93.3 bhp at wheel and 100 torque at wheel, janspeed use dyno jet dyno which is top name. i had just serviced the shit out of it before, plugs filters oil etc. has tecni clutch fitted and had the engineers take 0.5kg of the flywheel and i ported the throttle body. was bog standard when i purchased it, only had 50,000 on the clock when dynod. the mileage does matter. i am using my own enclosed kit like the bmc only used less branded names. would upload the graph but dont have a clue how

Most of that you just stated docent add bhp a good serivce will be good but it will not be that close to vts power vtr normal need a higher lift camshaft to get sort of power.

Even with the graph take that with a pinch of salt, as your saying a good serivce and exhaust system and air filter basically get you vts power,

It not the make of dyno used it now it calibrated to how good it works, and 100 torque at the wheels hmm this is more vts figures, out of a vtr I think you need to get it dyno again at a different dyno maybe.

they said there dyno give less power compared to others that their customers have used but he did say that if anything wont be more than 1 bhp out. they only give wheel readings as they wont guess the fly. the mk 1 vtr does struggle to breath, with cheap cast manis that have small flow and poor oil breathing and engine breathing.

95 to 105 bhp max id say..will be considerably less if its a cheap exhaust
  16. #16
They will say that as they ent going to say Na this dyno give high figures are they???

So you think with breather mods it will be up with vts power? Maybe yes will get to a mk2 engine power yes with breather mods.

But not vts power sorry mate.

Also the wheel figures are calculated on a dyno dude, best read a thread about 6300 rpm flat line thread in this section, read what sandy309 that sandy, he knows what he talking about.

So please that result with a pinch of salt.

All depends on the rollers, if it feels better to drive afterwards then it has had a positive effect. BHP etc is all pub talk at those sorts of powers and every engine will see different results.

hello lads cheers for the response. its got a mk2 vtr lump due to the mk1 lum dieing a death when the ast owner had it. it was put on the road last night and i must say i really like pulls well. i have since looked under the bonnet she was wrong it isnt a 421 its a 4-1 did these come standard?

get pics up? and check the ecu to, that might give you a better idea of what engine it is.

ok will do when she gets back from work . as i say i really like it, its got a blow from the downpipe and from what i can tell from last night at a guess a rumbling from the cv joint but all in all for the price paid its ace
