Blowing fuses...

  1. #1
This is on my 306 but i think the idea is the same as saxo...

My instrument panel froze the other day, not with the cold though! So i'm driving along on the motorway and noticed my trip computer just went off. Then noticed the clock went too. Along with my speedo and rev counter holding their position at 68mph and just under 3,000rpm no matter whether i sped up or slowed down! Petrol guage went off too!

So i've done a little investigating and found a blown 5A fuse. According to GTi-6 forum, the guilty fuse is for these things - Instrument panel - Passenger compartment protection unit - Alarm light - Luggague compartment lighting -Rear courtesy light.

So I have replaced this fuse with another 5A and my guages all returned to normal. Now this fuse has blown as soon as i started the engine.

    Does anyone have any ideas?

    Much love

    Cheers steve.

What wound happen if i put a 10A in instead of a 5A? Any adverse effects?

Also, i have a larger than standard battery in the car. Could this affect it?

    Cheers

Yes it would take longer to blow in the mean time your wiring catches fire.

Check around your engine bay for wires with bolts on going to vehicle body, clean them up so their in contact with clean rust free metal.
