when i turn on my sidelights it does not light up the light that tells me that they are on, below my dials.
anybody shed some light??

there isn't one for sidelights, just the whole dials illuminate

so when i click round onto sidelights the there is no indication their on apart from all the dials and interior lights lighting up?

Correct - only dipped and full beam have dash indicators - at least on Mk2 VTR and VTS's can't vouch for the rest but pretty sure they'd be the same.
