    Hi

I get the same thing, its caused mainly by a loose or damp alternator belt. Probably just a case of tightening the belt.

    Hope this helps

    3 ways of fixing this:-

    1) Buy and fit a new belt, if it's slipping chances are it's stretched and trying to tighten it up may result in it snapping.

    2) try to tighten it up, but be warned if its slipping it's probably already been stretched and may not last much longer

    3) "the bodge" - go to halfords and buy some "anti Squeel" it's like a sticky spry which you spray on the belt and the alternator pully and it basically makes the belt grip better.

Could it be the bearings in the alternator breaking down?

I think you'll find your belt is slipping lol.

Tighten it, or if it's cracked and fucked, buy a new one... Job done!

even if it does run and it snaps your battery wont last much longer as it will get no charge to it, best bet is to go to either road n rally on sheffield road or nancy's on duke street and buy yourself a new belt, should cost no more than a fiver

mine does this. replaced the belt and its pretty tight but still does it. not as much as it used to but still does it

if it was the bearings in the alternator you would get more of a grumbling sound, it's quite different to a belt squeel - also once the belt is off, wiggle the alternator pully up and down to check for play, if there is any excess play then your bearings probably are fcuk'd/

if i had to put money on it, i'd say its just your belt that wants replacing - very common.

Its more than a grumbling sound its like a loud cracking sound for about 2 min then quites down but still can hear it slightly.
