   ive got a saxo vts 4-1 mani wit decat full system exhaust unsure of make as it was already fitted.
   
   when slowing down and going down thru the gears it likes to pop n bang which ant a problem. jus wondering y it did this and y it doesnt do it when i go up right thru the gears. it also does it when i first start it up aswell.

   mine also pops and backfires when shiftin from 1st to 2nd, slowing down and going down the gears. (standard exhaust system from what i can see)
   dont hold me on it as im not 100 % sure but i think fuel has a part in it

   My 16v pops loud if i pin it through any gear and pop with a burble coming down the revs, its a standard manifold with a 106 diesel center pipe with one box silencer and a peco bigbore 2 on the rear i cant wake a hole street up if i give it one quick sharp rev it pops that loud.

   I am pretty sure it will be a piper exhaust manifold. I had the same setup as you and it popped and banged as well. Also I believe most other manufacturers only make a 4-2-1 and only piper ake a 4-1 for the saxo.

   Gmc make a 4-1 mani for the 16v aswell

   Unburnt fuel being burnt in the exhaust, does it because ur coming from high revs. hold it on the limiter for a second and hear it pop + bang.

   usually popping and banging is the result of a badly fitted exhaust letting air in, may not be in this case but 90% of the time it is

   cheers for all the post's. V helpful. i dont c it as a problem i was just wondering really. i dont fink its a badly fitted exhuast as is doesnt blow. at least i hope it isnt lol.
   just wish it poped more goin up thru the gears

   mines weird lol it pops going up thru the gears but not going down thru the gears piper 4-1 and supersprint straight thru

    Mine pops all the time, rev it, change gear, go down the gears it's constant popping, and the odd bang. Makes my car shake lol.

    still needs oxygen in the exhaust to ignite it though

    yeh its deffo unburnt fuel. bit more expensive but worth it i fink. not sure what the rest of the street finks tho.
