some advice on a rust hole

  1. #1
    Hey,
Some advice on a patch of rust would be much appreciated. It's a small hole (can just get a finger through it) in the classic place at the base of the rear drivers side arch. IS this considered close enough to a structurally significant point to class as an mot failure?

    Cheers

Hi mate, if you'v got a MOT coming up and you would rather get it fixed asap theres 2 ways to go about it, (im unsure if it would FAIL but jsut incase)
1: either weld a plate over it etc etc
2: put some Bathroom sealer over make sure its kinda flat, wait until its hard then put some spray paint over the top.
Use this as a tempory job i know its a bodge but yeah lol.

yer thats one the daft things of the mot... they can onli test what the can see... even if u caked sealant over it both size they cant fail it because they cant see it and not aloud to take it off,...

also its its welded on it must be seam welded.

That's a pretty big hole. mines a finger. And yes i will be getting it welded up pronto. but just wondering if it would fail if i didn't get round to it

It depends on the tester , mine had a hole about the same size and they passed it without any problem .

Id get it fixed ASAP otherwise its just going to get bigger. Especially the state of the roads of the moment the amount of crap going into your wheel arches. Get it welded up ASAP.

Cut the old metal out for a good distance around the rust.
Cut a replacmemt patch to go in to it and seam weld it in to place.
    Then seal both sides

its a fail if its within 12" of a suspension or seatbelt or seat mounting IIRC.
