Overheating when Idle.. Awful noise!

  1. #1
    Hey guys.

Ever since I've had my BMC CDA fitted, I seem to be overheating when idle. I was in KFC drive through earlier and on the thermostat it was 3/4 full, then this noise started which I thought was the fan but it was quite loud and didnt really sound like a fan? could it be the air filter??

    Help

Shouldnt have anything to do with the filter. Describe the noise? Chances are you just have a random airlock and the coolant needs bleeding

wot is a BMC CDA ?

It sounds like a fan but I dont think it is? But then it must be because it only kicks in when the temp is really hot. Would a service sort this?

    Take it off then?

    Yeah it's an air filter.

Why would I do that? I dont think it is to do with that.

Get the coolant looked at first, get it drained and bled correctly, then let it idle until the fan kicks in, and check the temperature

    haha.

I think it could just be the fan making the noise, ?

Bleed your System, overheating like that is normally due to an air lock.

It is the fan, I checked earlier it's just the fan making an awful noise.

Might get it replaced or get 2 added?

I spoke to my mechanic mate and he said it's because the airbox doesnt get cold air when its idle so it heats up, therefore the fan kicks in... might need to create a new air feed??

tbh the fan should be kicking in before then. bleed the system

and the reason the fan comes on is because when you're driving the air cools down the radiator

What? The cooling system is nothing to do with the air feed. The car will heat up when idle because air isnt passing through the radiator, which is cooling the coolant - in this case the fan is turned on automatically and does the blowing for you.

Sounds like you just need a replacement fan thats all..

    Oh okay cheers pal
