do silencers help with emmisions?

   as title says, my mot is due soon, i need a new cat/center section to replace my supersprint, ive found a nice cheap cat for £45 but the 1.1 center sections dont have silencers but vtr/s one do as most people know BUT if i fit a 1.1 pipe to my car WITH a cat would you think it will still pass an mot?
   Seams a waste of money to buy a vtr/s pipe with a silencer when i can get a 1.1 pipe cheaper as it'll only be on for a day

   actually sorry guys screw that found out vtr/s pipe are only a few quid more with a silencer so i might as well buy one

   silencers help with noise, its your cat that sorts the emissions re exhaust
