My dad has got a 58 plate vectra.
He was coming back from familys yesterday said car was running fine. Then a few miles later he said it felt "sluggish" so looked town temp gauge was at its furthest point. So he pulled over. (and my dad being his dad) decided to open the expansion botttle, so he obv lost water. He called me i towed him to the petrol statoin we re-filled him with water let the car cool..
Turned Key. Can hear the starter motor try but theres no compression i dont belive. Its only done 48,000 miles its a Turbo Diesel
ANy help would be great thanks

its goosed. either head gasket has given way loosing compression or more likely pistons have shrunk/rings have stuck through getting too hot. Sluggish-ness was probably car shutting down into limp mode as they are meant to at the first signs of trouble, driver abuse IMO

Dads only had it 2-3 weeks. Only tme it got abused in his ownership was day we brought it..

Is it worth taking out a warrenty leaving it a few months then claiming? Or just get rid

driver abuse includes driving it while temp guage is reading hot lol

It was probs driven like that for about a mile. When he was coming down the express way he said it was at half.. which is its normal place.

Never mind looks like either put another engine in or scrap the thing lol

    Cheers

scrap a 58 plate..? are you mad .... there must be a warenty on it already ? or does it void if its a new owner?

Surely its still got Vauxhall warranty on as I know Toyota warrany isn't void just because of owner change?

Vauxhall are not interested they said the vehicles warrenty is void as its single ownership (so the woman says)

    The warrenty is to cover
8years or 100,000miles as long as YOU own the car (as in the person who was 1st to own)
theres a few vaux engines lying about at work from older cars. Might see how much work is required to put it in. I dont fancy the price of another engine from vaux
