Important! : taking a engine out.

   Hiya all i need to take my engine out to put a newer one in but i cant get a crane what is the best way to take it out and put one in without one?

   take whole front off then then attach rope or what ever to the engine and thread a big long bar through it and 2 of you can lift it out obviously you'll need some one to undo the mount why you doing this

   2 ways....
   
   1- get a few mates and get some strong ropes or lifting straps - thread the ropes under the engine and out the pther side (over the wings) - now every one lift - its very akward this way......but do'able
   
   2 - remove everything from under the car then unbolt the engine....then jack the car up to fu.ck so that it clears the engine then slide the engine out from under the car on a skate or a trolley jack
   
   other than that, your out of luck.

   edit - proably best to remove the bonnet completely if doing it via method 1.

   Could you not drive it up ramps, drop the engine, then let it reverse/drop onto the new engine?

   to be honest mate i doubt ramps would lift the car high enough to clear the top of the engine. i suppose if you coulkd get some really high ramps then yes theoretically its possible,
