Help me please. i have a 2001 51 plate saxo vtr and just this week it has started to tick over at 3000 revs. Any ideas what could be wrong? we've been to scrapyard and got a second hand idle control valve, made no difference and got a second hand coolant temp sensor blue plug, this also made no difference. im pulling my hair out now and really need someone who knows to point a damsel in distress in the right direction
    cheers

Has the throttle cable been disturbed in any way? Is the cable sticking? The engine end of it has notches and a clip, make sure clip is on the right notch and theres some slack.

Might be an air leak? Are there any vacuum tubes disconnected or split?

Its the green temp sensor you need but wont be that anyhow.

Just think whats been disturbed or altered just before the problem started

well............... the other day we took off the idle control valve to clean as the car randomly revved up but when you put your foot and let it out it stopped so we thought it was the icv but when we took that out to clean, put it back on it made it worse and now its a constant rev at 3000. really dont have a clue............ help xx

When you re-install the ICV you need to switch the engine on & off 3 times without starting the car to set-up the ICV otherwise it`ll rev high.

Have you checked for Vaccum leaks?

Leaking seals between the Throttle Body?

cheers for your help. ive checked for leaks, none to report. ive also tried the ignition thing to reset the icv. this seems to have done the trick i think. thank you so much for all your help. hope i am able to repay the favour one day.
