Gearbox oil seal

   Hi all im new to posting im really liking the site lots of useful tips, ive just been given a 53 plate 1.1 saxo with 29k on the clock in maricious blue i think its called, my problem is its making a wierd noise that sounds like its coming from the gearbox. I looked underneath the car and found the gearbox covered in oil im just wondering the following...
   
   Do you think it is a gearbox oil seal?
   
   Is there is any other things it could be?(apart from crank oil seal)
   
   would you say to change the box or change the seal as its been run quite low im guessing?
   
   and lastly how much would a second hand box be?

   second hand boxes run from £40ish upwards. think i paid about 70 for mine and went to collect it! but you need to make sure its the gearbox first! when does the noise happen, in gear, neutral, clutch up or down, etc etc

   it makes the noise in neutral when its in gear and clutch engaged and disengaged.
