re-tapping thread?

  1. #1
    Hi Guys,

Is it possible to re-tap the thread on my wheel hub?

The wheel was off last week, and when out back on, caught the threads wrong, now nut wont go in at all!

So, is it possible to re-thread this, and if so, is it a difficult job? Or would I be better replacing the whole hub to a new one?
    Currently running on 3 nuts.

    Thanks in advance

Its pretty easy to do mate and yes you can. but i would only put the locking bolt in the thread as i wouldn't trust the tapped thread to carry the full load of the wheel but it should be able to take the torque of tightening the locking bolt.

you just need a tap set with a m12 tap and plenty of lube such as wd40 or light machine oil. dont forget to clean up any lube up after.

    thx for the reply mate,

yea the threads which are gone used to hold the locking nut (which I have also lost!)

Think I might buy myself sum new locking nuts and a tapping set, may be handy again in the future!

the tapping sets are amazing i use mine at least once a day at work. just try buy a decent set and not a draper one as the bits are sharper and a lot stronger so wont snap when tapping. remember to use lube tho!
