Flat Arch With Alloys - Problem.

  1. #1
Bought some cracking VTR alloys for my 1.1 great condition, 4 new tyers, was a bargain at £80 (love ebay).

Well here is the problem, that stupid little lip on the rear arches is rubbing the outside of the typer when ever there is alot of weight in the back...

say, 2 in the back or sometimes even 1 person... and i cant just say, no1 in my back coz i use the car for fishing and load all my gear (and i have alot) in the back... (and yes i can fit it all in hahaah).

Best way to deal with this? i dont really want to get smaller tyers, i think they r 185/65/14 (kinda tractor tyer) but i dont mind it, anything is better than the shitty little 13" steels that came off it ^^.

So what would u suggest it the best way to get rid of that stupid lip im guessing grind the thing off? >_<

will have to get it sorted pretty sharpish coz its driving me mad! i dont wana cruise around where ever i go lookin like a complete chav -_- (no offence ofc)

Just need some advice XD oh and my finantial situation isnt the best to get a VT body kid im a student ^_^

Roll the arches that's what I did to mine, get the big pole and put it under the arch then put weight in the car and roll he pole so the arches flare outwards and roll the metal. Need to do some adjustment to the trims sometimes as the clips might break

ah i see, the arch linings r fucked anyways -_- sure last owners did a bodge on them... dont think they r even from a saxo.. dont really fit! >_<

If you do it well the liners shouldn't be effected, if you space them out like 9-10 mm then they won't rub on the inside as well on the boot

they r rubbing by like 2mm maybe a little more, hardly anything! the inside is tight but not causing a problem i dont think, will have to take a look at it :]

dont really want to be doing that myself so might take it to the mechanic we have in our street does all the bits on my car that i cant do myself ^^

You sure the tyres are 185/65?

    They should be 185/55/R14.

Have a look on the inside mine rubbed on both sides only a tiny bit on the inside though but worth looking at just incase they do abit

they could be /55/ ill go check now ^^

hmm... ok, my friends dad can make me a few spacers for nout so needs be, happy days

Need to be careful to make them exact or the spacers won't centre on the wheels properly and when you get to high speeds they will shake the whole car like mad

The two best ways are either:

Grind the lip off the inside, takes about 10 mins. Make sure you paint it afterwards though

    Run narrower tyres

    they are 185/65/R14 :]

i was thinking grinding it, would solve it completely then, maybe have to get some spacers just to get them away from the inside a bit.

i will see some1 about if they can grind it for me, or atleast roll it :]

what u think about the price?

Your tyres are the wrong profile, that wont be helping the rubbing.

    You need 55 profile tyres.

i was thinking that but if i can help it, id rather not buy tyers, they have LOADS of tread >_<. the fronts r fine... its just the back lol...

    this is annoying lol XD
