Sloppy gear change!

  1. #1
Hi using a saxo ATM due to bumping my daily car

Anyway the gear change is shite and all over the place on it,ie a lot of gear stick movement! More than iv ever had in any of the 4 iv owned lol

What is the cause of this? The 3 linkages in the engine bay look fine not bent or anything etc!

    What else can it be?

    Cheers

Shaft socket at bottom of gear lever, or the nylon ball at the bottom of the gear lever.

There is a ball and socket from the connecting bit from the bottom of the gear lever before it gets to the linkages.. Could be that?

the linkages could be worn inside the ball joint or underneeth your car there is a bigger ball joint under the car check that for play

    Gear linkages.
The rubber ball that connects bewteen the gear linkages and the gear selection rod from the bottom of the gearstick.
Pin on the gearbox may be worn, either fit a replacment or drill out and fit bigger one.
Ball joint at the bottom of the gear stick.

Could be worn cotter pin part no: 2509.24 (i think) that hold gear selector arm in place on back of box.

    My VTS has that prob.

This is your most likely cause, i have the same problem just havnt got round to changing it.

Alot of people just put a nut and bolt through it.

i have this, try tightening up the bolt on the bottom of the gearstick i did this last becasue i thought it would never be it. i think you will find if you have a lot of left to right movement maybe even a nock when you push it to the far left then this is your problem
