VTR Alloys on a Flatarch

  1. #1
I have a 1.1 Desire, 02 plate comes with 14" Steels as standard, will I be able to put VTR alloys straight on or will I run into problems, The car isnt lowered but I have seen a few threads that say there has been rubbing issues, I just dont fancy buying some Alloys to then not be able to use them,

    any help greatly appreciated

they will go straight on no problem, as long as your not using thick beefy tyres . just jack your car up and switch them over

    no they wont at all.

If you fit some vtr alloys to a flat arch without running thinner tyres (175 or thinner) Or without grinding the lip off/rolling the arch then it will 100% rub when its either lowerd or theres some weight in the back. ride height needs to drop by 40mm iirc to make it rub

I normally only have 3 small kids in the back, so im hoping that wont weigh it down too much

    Tyre size apparantly is 185 65 14...

Standard vtr tyre size is 185/55/14. Standard desire steel wheel size is 165/65/14

I run Vtr alloys on my car, i just used the tyres off my steel wheels and fitted them to the rear vtr wheels (will save you money too if there in good condition) its lowerd by 70mm and with weight goes down to about 90mm no rubbing at all. i did run it with stnadard 185 tyres on the rear for about 12 seconds and it rubbed constantly

edit: also cant really tell any difference when looking at the car, some recents sideways shots in my progress thread if you want to see what it looks like and the tyre wall height is pretty much the same

    no for vtr its 185 55 14

i have vtr alloys that are 185/65/R14 which r the same as urs and they do rub when people r in the back, ive been advised to get 55's and they should be fine as they only rub by like 1 maybe 2 mm

then again im going to get my arches sorted, just put them on its hardly anything so shouldnt be a problem

We fitted VTR alloys to the gf's 1.1 Desire.

Fronts fitted fine, but we had to use 3mm spacers on the rear to stop the tyre rubbing on the radius arm.

Had no more problems with rubbing, untill it was lowered
Then had to cut some of the arch lip off

thanks everyone, im picking the wheels up Saturday, so hopefully I have no problems, Can I use my standard wheel bolts or will I need Longer/shorter ones, and the same for locking wheel Nuts, I was gonna pop in Halfrauds on the way back from collecting the wheels, but wasnt sure what to buy..

you'll need proper flat faced VTR wheel bolts, not tapered types. Standard tapered ones, whatever the length, are not suitable for VTR or VTS rims

Do you know if Halfords Sell them (I mean are they specific to the VTR or are they just a type of nut that VTR's use aswell as other make ), and what size Locking wheel nuts I might need ?

yeh i got vtr alloys on my desire, it was a straight swap

i didnt know the bolts are different??
just go to a scrapy and take them of a vtr, thats where i got bolts and alloys from
i just got the vtr bolts because mine looked shity, didnt realise they were different
