Gears!!!

  1. #1
Just pulled up at some traffic lights and then tried to pull off and all i heard was a big clunk and the car stalled. I then tried to put it back into first gear but it wouldnt go and the gear stick has gone extremly slack. The only gears i can select is 3rd and 4th although 4th is where the reverse is. Pulled over on side of road and when i wiggle the gear stick i can hear a metal jinglein underneath.

Ive had a quick look but cant see anything, Anyone know what this may be before i take it to the garage?

    Gear links mate.

Look down the back of the engine bay behind the engine and you will see 3 metal rods. Wiggle them & no doubt 1 will be loose, it will either have pulled the rubber out the rod, or snapped the bracket, it is a little bracket that bolts on to the box that 1 of the short links pops on, the ends of these snap off which will cause the link to be loose

    Sounds like gear linkage?

Check under the bonnet, at the back of the bay for the gear linkages to see if any have come off?

Ive had a look but i cant really see much down the back with the power steering pump and air filter been there, do you have a pic of what im looking for as i cant see much that looks outer place, i cant get under the car either as i cant get it into reverse to get it on the drive

get some one to mess around with the gear stick as you look in the engine bay and you should see some metal rods moving around randomly, if so then it is the gear linkages that have poped out. (only way i can explain really)

EDIT: they should be near the right hand side top, if you are looking at the car front on. (when i say top i mean like if you look over the engine bay birds eye view)

you can get the parts from citroen but i would go for these: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/saxo-vts-vtr-1...item3f064ab2c1

they are ment to be much better then the standard ones.

Yup. Will do the world of good for slack gears.

I need to switch mine over. Kamracing do linkages for about £50 which are good...
