anyone had their standard ecu chip tuned/remapped

i have a vtr single plug and was looking at this, some companys do look the business and say they read your previous info and alter, its sound like they dont use generic chips or maps and actually custom map. just wanted to hear from anyone who has had it done and what they think

    What modifications have you made?

janspeed mani, saxsport, bmc style induction, fast road clutch and lighter standard flywheel, walbro fuel pump, ported throttle body. but want to fit mild cam (pt40) before i get any sort of remap, (not getting standalone or phase3 newman to much money) and i dont want a vts engine either so dont say get s lump

Usually you dont have to bother with a remap for a mild cam.

You can remap the standard ECU. But unless you want to extract everysingle peice of potential from the engine a remap wont be worth the money imo.

Like £300 for a few bhp on an 8valve. Would be more effective on a VTS or a more wild cam to allow it to run better and get a few more bhp.

lol you want to fit a pt40 but dont want to fit ph3 because its too much money? ph3's in over 90% of retailers will be significantly cheaper then any kent cams

I own a VTR and I have got a jamsport?? superchip in my ECU. I would recommend it, mines rapid now. x

its not the price of the cam it the fact that if i get a ph3 i wont get the performance because of the need for managment and throttle bodys of sum sort, it says wont run on standard injection. also were do you get these jamsport chip/remap

Ive Got a mapped standard ecu on my vts, Its running wilder cams than What you want to run. its ok but I think the map could be better tbh. The idle isn't great, the car cuts out but very rarely and I think its running a bit lean. Ive Got a recipt for the map, I can dig it out if your interested.

any cam requires a remap to unlock its full potential, ph3's will run fine unmapped on any car, you dont need tb's or management, youll see alot better gains with a remap especially with the ph3's as the powerband is higher up, but youve already said you want a remap with your pt40..... so whats the issue?

chipwizards done a brilliant job on my vts, timed up spot on and remaped.

i was told that i would not be able to run ph3 as needed managment or throttle bodys, so can i run ph3 in my vtr on standard ecu unmapped and will still run fine and then get my standard ecu chiped/remapped
  13. #13
yes.... get it remapped by a reputable mapper, dont get it chipped
  14. #14
Can i get better accelerating and more bhp while saving money on fuel with a remap?

if you dont have at least.... straight through exhaust inc mani, decent induction with cold air feed, i wouldnt bother remapping an ecu, tbh its really not worth tuning the 1.4 lump(less youve got money to go boosted), the money youd spend on the above you could get a vtr or vts lump easily fitted, alot more power to start, yes you may say itll put your insurance up, but an engine change would cost you less if you declare it then the mods above, so we'd then assume you wont be declaring..... if you fit a vtr lump theyre pretty much undectable when looking at the 1.4 and vtr, but thats up to you.... and most will not condone that on here, end of the day that choice is yours but i wouldnt reccomend wasting money on the 1.4 lump, you could also say it'd be better to save the money for a better car when insurance comes down.......

yup, 5bhp and 5lbf on a back to back test on a Jp4 with 4-2-1 and full system/filter, better curve and smoother curve
