PO117 Coolant Temp. Problem...

    Hi guys.

    I have a 1.1i Citroen Saxo.

I have had a problem with my fan and temperature light for nearly a month now. Basically as soon as i turn my engine on no matter what the temperature, the light is always on and the fan kicks in.

I posted this problem about 2 weeks ago but now i have an update. I had the fault code read today in a garage and it came up with PO117 Coolant Temperature Sensor Fault.

Even when the engine had been running for 10 mins the sensor was apparantly reading -48 degrees. The guy said it could be either a dodgey sensor or a fault in the wiring. He explained that on my engine there are two sensors, one located on the top of the engine near the thermo (blue and i think has a yellow ring) and the other is down the bottom side of the engine that is also blue but is held in with a metal clip.

I had replaced the top coolant temp sensor (blue) from a scrapyard but now i have ordered a brand new one from motormania, however the lads at motormania couldnt find this sensor that is located on the right. It has one wire coming out of it i think its green (maybe pink i will look later).

Can someone tell me what this sensor is called, and link me to a shopping page for it? I would really apppreciate the help.

Also, if anyone else has had this problem please enlighten me on what i can do next...first im doing the sensors. then the wiring.

    Thanks again,

    Jack

There are 2 sensors - blue and green - both next to each other on the cylinder head by the thermostat. 1 reads the temp for the dash gauge, the other gives the reading to your ECU. Sounds like the dash ones faulty, but for the sake of a tenner each, id replace them both.

    Hi Jason

    Have you fixed your problem?
i think I have the same one- no matter the engine is hot/cold, the temperature light is on all the time.
I am going to replace green sensor, hopefully it will work.
BTW. what about termostat, have you checked?
And don't forget to check coolant cap,the gasket on it may be torn.

    Im Jack.

And yes, its not a green sensor though. I took the cluip off for the sensor and the one i need to replace is dark blue and has a yellow ring round it. Its not on the thermostat but underneath the housing for it.

Don't know what else to try...
