ABS probs.. i think

    Hi guys,

    Brake probs still! Help anybody?

So far had it to 3 mechanics, each of whom have changed pads, discs, pipes and bushings. Still having the same prob with my 99 vts, which is...

Whenever coming to a stop (5mph - 0mph), and pressing in brake pedal, it suddenly goes stff, and the ABS kicks in, causing the pedal to be almost inoperative, and loss of braking completley until I pump it 2 or 3 times.

9 out of 10 times the car stops fine, however I dont like taking the chance with that 1 time when it doesnt.
Rang Citroen, told me they can hook it up to the diagnostic machine for £60, and charge £60 p/hr thereafter for labour.

The latest mechanic (2hrs ago), found a broken ABS sensor in the rear right hand side wheel while he was cleaning the calipers.. is this finaly the cause?? He's not sure. He said maybe sensor, ABS pump or servo...
Or shall I just reluctantly pay the ridicuous money to Ctroen to (possibly?) tell me that same thing!
So far paid 3 mechanics a fair amount, and still no further with brake prob.

    Thanks in advance,

Make sure all the ABS sensors and rings are clean from rust and crap first of all. Then you could do with a rolling road or on the move diagnostic to read the ABS system and see if there is a difference / drop out in the 4 readings.

thanks mate, yea the mechanic today cleaned the rear 2 ABS sensors off dirt n crap, thats how he noticed one broken.

Think this one sensor could cause all this fus?

Try something simple and check the vacuum hose from the engine to the Servo. Doesn't any of the 3 mechanics have a diagnostics machine?? they should bloomin do!

Doubt it would be the cause tbh as if it was an ABS sensor the abs system wouldn't be functioning anyway so you would have no abs and plus the light would come on on the dash.

only thing else i could suggest is to bleed the brakes, if not it maybe the ABS Pump/ECU so needs to go onto diagnostics

The brakes have been bled today mate, no change, so maybe the pump not sure?

A broken sensor or a big difference in speed readings would certainly bring up the ABS warning light if there was a fault. Does it light up with ignition then go out?

yea mate, the ABS light comes on for about 2secs then dissapears.

    is that normal?

    cheers

If there was a prob with the abs system the light eould be on its not on so no prob, and not brake servo as it works fine for most of the time but only buggers when at low speed, must be electrical

Well you have a problem with your system, all of mine work fine so its not a citroen fault, but good shout unplug the ABS pump see if it happens then. then you know its the ABS ECU/Pump unit
