Cobra Sidemounts

  1. #1
Never used sidemounts before..noticed most poeple who have them also have seat rails too. Now do the cobra sidemounts not just bolt straight into the standard seat bolt points? Looks like the outer side mounting points aint on the cobra sidemounts?

Is there some off the shelf fitting mounts I could use, or have I got to weld in some seat rails for the sidemounts to bolt to?

I guess it might be a case of getting the seat in the position i want with the side mounts on then marking out where I need the seat rails to be for bolting in place?

Yes. you need to buy subframes to bolt the side mounts to. or make your own seat rails to weld in where you need them. then bolt the side mounts to them

Gotchaaa! bit of welding it is then. Thanks again mate.

I used OMP sidemounts dude but may be the same principle. I didn't have sliders on mine but here's some info anyway (might be of help, might not).

The side where it bolt's to the sill's i bolted the Sidemounts to THESE. But they aren't long enough regard's the bolt spacing on the sills. So then i got some flat steel and cut it to lenth, drilled it and then bolted those angled pieces to the flat steel.

I hope that makes sense. If not, i'm pretty sure in my Saxo's thread i put a diagram up to describe it.

You might want them to slide, dunno. But if it isn't a problem for you then it is an option

Thanks for that Chip, I guess the sill side is actually quite simple, just a peice of L shaped steel with the holes drilled out for the sidemounts where I need.

you know with the sidemounts on the handbrake side, do they actually mount directly to the car or are they slightly further in? Meaning I can make a bracket again there from the original fixing points to where I need the side mounts to mount?

weld in seat rails will be far easier, and many times stronger

Go seat rails, only problem would be flexibly test time can be an ass or dyno running, but its worth it 10 fold when your driving.

Also consider while using side mounts where the harness points will be on the handbrake side.

What do you mean by this mate? Probably something obvious but im half asleep lol

He means that with the cheaper base mounted seats you can mount the original belt mount. you don't have this option. so you will have to either weld or bolt a spreader plate to the tunnel and bolt the harness on there

Ahh I see, yeh thats fine, can sort something out for that. On the last set of corbeau's I mounted the harness to the original seat mounting points.

on the 4 point you have one that comes out the side by the hand brake, most of the prefab seat bases have a section in place so you can screw tyhe harness bolts in.
