Trouble gear selecting

    Very strange one, there's nothing wrong when i select gears by hand on the gearbox nothing catches and i can see it all working fine and going in to gear spot on, but in the car on the gearstick it is poor for selecting gears, you cannot get 5th or reverse, and the others are kind of a guessing game, when i go to put it into 5th or reverse you hear a clonk, sounds like the gearstick catching on something, what the hell is going on? lol.

    do you have aftermarket selector rods?
