slowing down problem

  1. #1
as im taking my foot off the throttle and just rolling in gear i can feel a big resistance like somthing slowing the car down.... it feels like my brakes are sticking but when i put it in neutral this problem goes away ... i know engine breaking would slow me down but its never been like this before

would a worn engine mount cause this?
  2. #2
I doubt it. Worn gearbox or diff more like.
  3. #3
ahhhh but theres no whining or nothing goes into gears fine like it always has .... my gearbox failed on my old saxo the diff bearings went and there was an almighty noise ....

also its using more petrol recently ....

Whats the condition of the clutch like - when was it last changed?

At very least i'd change your gearbox oil.
  6. #6
gearbox oil has been changed recently mate as i replaced the driveshaft

could it be my passenger side driveshaft the inner boot has split and leaked all its grease .
and my clutch i have no idea when it was last changed its pretty heavy tho take alot of force to push the clutch to the floor

Well it doesn't sound like a clutch problem to be honest... but its french and is part of the transmission so it could be

What grade was the gearbox oil? Saxos need 75W/80. I once made the mistake of the wrong grade and it locked the diff completely. Glad I needed a new box anyway
Something like this would work a treat : Castrol EPX75w-80 gear oil

I would have thought a knackered inner CV joint would make a noise, but if its badly warn then it would certainly affect it

Does it pull to one side when accelerating or taking your foot off after accelerating?

ummm no mate it doesnt do any off that and the garage replaced my driveshaft so they put the oil in mate ... you know if is gearbox problem there would be alot of metal filings on the drain plug wouldnt there?
  9. #9
Well it depends, they might not be as the filings would come from grinding syncros or actual gears.

Wrong oil (garages ) would probably be too thick for a saxo and create pressure - but even then you'd think it would be the same in neutral and in gear. Its a strange one really. If it wasn't long ago when you have the driveshaft done then get it back to the garage - part of the 'excessive' labour should be to cover extra time when things go wrong.

okay mate thanks for your info and time !
  11. #11
as outrage said, its probably the gear oil, its the only thing that can increase engine braking with everything else seeming alright. Do you know what grade was put in it? Did the garage do it?
  12. #12
No problem buddy, come back to us if it doesn't get sorted
  13. #13
    will do mate
