Help with replacing speakers

  1. #1
    Hi,
One of my front door speakers has broke and needs replacing.

I'm just looking at getting a cheap set as I am not bothered about quality that much.

When I come to wiring them up, is it just a matter of removing the old one and attaching the +ve/ -ve wires to the new one?

Also, I am confused on the types of speakers such as concentric and two way coaxial etc. Does it matter which one in terms of ease of fitting/ compatibilty?

I was looking at these, would they be ok?

when your getting speakers you need to see how many holes are needed to secure them into the door. i suggest taking your old one out first so you can see it. it is also just a matter of connecting pos and neg points to. its really easy changing speakers in the car.

however from what i can remember from mine absoloutley ages ago was that i needed a posidrive set to take them out for some reason...this might not be the case and i couldve been doing something else at the time i was doing them but its a really simple job. if your considering getting a set from halfords just pay them to fit them if your really worried about it.

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/s...egoryId_165707 these will fit right in

You may need to drill out the rivets holding the speakers in...although it sounds like you took one out already, was it torx bolted in?

Torx you mean mate, u can use a normal philips on pozidrive Some speakers are torx and others are rivets, my 1.1 was rivets so i jused drilled em out. Those speakers will bolt right in, they wont be amasing but defonetli an imporvent over stock

As long as the new speakers are 13cm and fit inside the depth of the door card you should be fine.
Just ensure the torx/rivet holds are in the same location (one each corner) x4

You may need to drill out the standard rivets and replace them with some self tapping screws.

Any speakers will be better than standards, but you need to upgrade the headunit from the standard one to also get the advantage. but either way
Coaxial speakers are you best bet. Component speakers are a step up and require abit more work to get the best quality

    good luck
