how should a clutch feel??

Just wondering how a clutch on a saxo vtr should feel my old one was fairly hard but the one i have now is really soft like i can push it down to easy.
Can anyone shed any light in this?
    Cheers

Suppose it depends if the clutch fork thing on top of the gearbox has been lubricated?

No idea mate have to check.
i no the gearbox is broke so do you think some oil might of leaked on to the clutch?

My VTR has a new clutch - easy peasey to push down the pedal.

My VTS hasn't a new clutch and is considerably harder to push down.

Age of clutch can also determine the pressure needed to push the pedal.

Mines quite stiff and it supposed to have just had a new clutch

so if its really easy to push down its a fair new clutch?
i dont no when or if it has been changed havnt owned it very long.

I'm not an expert but logic would say that you've more chance for an easy push from a new clutch rather than an old but no guarantee.

My 1.1 clutch was really resistant, felt like it was spring loaded or something, Made it impossible to hold it on the biting point

I think the generally rule of thumb is that there is some resistance on the clutch pedal during operation. Otherwise it would remain depressed.
If your happy driving with the clutch in the current condition your ok.
Otherwise get a garage to check it out, its all down to what you get used to IMO
I've had people borrow my Work's van and complain / compare the clutch to their own.

When mates sit in mine most of them comment "woah your clutch is really heavy". Think they are used to these hydraulic clutches which are really light.

Prefer mine though, you have a good feel with it and it tones your left leg at the same time lol.

Only problem I have is going from the VTS to the VTR (hard to soft) - nearly stamp my left foot through the floor the first time I put it into gear

I had a clutch replacement in my old Furio, was really stiff on the old clutch
The new one was fairly soft to begin with but hardended up after a few months.

Unless its slipping or making strange noises, I really wouldnt worry
    All clutches are different

My clutch on my mk1 R was really light when i first brought it,
But also a long clutch, so i took it to a garage and asked them to shorten it for me its like a little racing clutch now i only have to bring it up a couple of centimeters to get the bite, but now unfortunately its gone heavy.. haven't really looked in to losening it or lubricating it just got used to it, I hear most standard saxo clutchs are heavy.

usually new clutches feel lighter, but mainly it depends on what type of clutch you have on your car that determines the stiffness. As long as its not slipping and not offensively stiff then its fine. We once had a car in a work with a bent arm as the clutch was soo stiff so we had to change the clutch and arm but this is very rare

i would highly recommend valeo clutches as they are good quality and feel very good.
