What is the button next to the hazard light and heated rear window button thats green at night and its got a picture of what looks like a speaker emitting sound with a massiv cross over it. My thinking was it being a mute button but if it is it doesnt work. I cant find anything it does, so i pulled it out to find three wires coming out of it. I think two are for the light but couldnt trace the wire
Green button on me centre console

#2It's the ultrasonic sensor button, turns them on and off.1 user thanked this post:

#3By any chance do you have a vts ?
They are usually on vts's, It's for your alarm.
You press the button in for approx 6-7 seconds (off first click on the key)to deactivate your sensors on your alarm, but this doesnt mean you haven't got an alarm if someone does break in and tries to hotwire it the alarm will go off and your immobiliser will arm, this system was designed so little things like a cat jumping on your bonnet in the middle of the night won't set your alarm off.
its called the ultrasonic sensor, very good system
DO NOT TAMPER WITH THE WIRES !1 user thanked this post: -
#4Superb, thanks lads and nah its a vtr. To bbe honest, i wasnt aware it even had an alarm.
-
#5Is that what it is....ah, did wonder.
I presume it's the same button as what Peugeots have next to the ignition barrel on the cowling? -
#7I do but it dont flash or cum on or anything. Ive just got a bog standard key aswell. No swanky buttons or anythin. Ill have a look in a min, not goin out now its pissing down
-
#8i got the red flashin light but no green button, but the wirings there????
-
#9I got a red light on but it doesn't flash at all, even when locked, just always stays on
-
#10Could be a LED running off the standard wiring, giving the impression of an alarm but in fact its just a light.Quote:I got a red light on but it doesn't flash at all, even when locked, just always stays on
Its quite a common mod.
As fair as I am aware, it was only VTS Saxo's that had the Ultrasound alarm toggle button.
Or am I wrong? -
#11I thought the vts's only had the ultrasonic button to mate
-
#12Well mines a vtr and gOt it mate, unless my cars not a vtr which i wudnt be surprised about, everything else on it a joke. For instance, ive had the car 2 weeks from a "mate" , just gone out to check which alarm ive got and it lools like its been ripped out. Ive got the cradle, connectors, rubber strap, light and ultrasonic button for an alarm which it apEars i dont have. And i just taken out me interior light and its surround to find that my ariel is held in by rust. NOT HAPPY. Nm, as i said before the 1,200 odd quid ive spent on it so far, "bit of tlc and it'll be a luvly motor"

#13All i can say to you mate is ..Quote:Well mines a vtr and gOt it mate, unless my cars not a vtr which i wudnt be surprised about, everything else on it a joke. Fix roof ( gna remove areil and smooth over hole)
Sort out why my abs lights on
Fit an alarm
Clutch
Fix subframe (just paid to have it welded but the drivers seat still loose)
Cv boots gone i think now aswell -
#15Abs ?Quote:Cheers pal, its a luvely car. I just need it to last another year and half so i can splash out wen i get bk from afghan on a nicer motor. I do like it and wont settle till its in full workin condition. Just got to;

Are you sure its not a vts because vtr shouldn't have abs or a ultrasonic button ha.
You've got a vts ha ! -
#16Yeh?? If thats true, must have a ringer cos its down on the v5 as a vtr lol. Not sure if thats a good or bad thing, ive just stuck a vtr gearbox on it. Its an 8V engine tho?!?!
-
#17if its v8 its vtr
vts has 16.
but if it is a vts, just say to insurance and w/e its vtr
cheaper! ^_^
-
#18Yeh def an 8 valve sohc engine, but why the vts interior?!? Im gna whip round it tomoz and make a note of all the vin no's and such. Get me mate to stick themthrough dvla
-
#19Have the back seats got headrests on them also what wheels are on them,
Just take a photo of engine and upload it,
Sounds like you've got a vts thats had a transplant and just updated the v5 -
#20picture of the engine? that would soon tell you
-
#21Ill get a pic up tomoz and of the wheels but yeh got 2 bk headrests
-
#22Haha 2 back headrests you've got an vts mate ..
Probably with a vtr transplant -
#23Oh dear .
why the f**k would sumone downgrade there car? Thats like buyin an m3, sticking a 318 lump init, and then changing all the badges. Wot bellend would do that? Thanks for the help tho mate, wud never have known otherwise
-
#24No worries mate, anytimeQuote:Oh dear .

..
You wouldn't believe it but actually quite a lot of people do it, because you get more miles out of the R just more Eco and less hassle, its just easier to do a engine transplant rather than flogging your S to get a R, you know what i mean mate. -
#25Yeh for sure. So i got a ringer, but its not all bad
just gota sorce an alarm. So i got to fix the abs as normal? Im guessing they wont have taken that away. Although they took the alarm away. :/ must have been some potent stuff they were smoking
-
#26dont put a standerd alarm unit bk in as the ecu will be unlocked and if you put it bk it fill lock your ecu and you will neva start your car agen lol get a cilford alarm or sumit
BE WARNED -
#27Have you got a fob for the alarm ?Quote:Yeh for sure. So i got a ringer, but its not all bad

Naah the abs will be still there mate.
Ye you got a ringer mate but remember if you ever sell it, always mention that it has vts parts on it because you'll get more for it mate
-
#28He could get a standard one but obviously he would have to get his ecu unlocked .. but i agree if you get an alarm get a thatcham or a clifford mate
-
#29his ecu will be unlocked now for the car to run but he will have to get it modyfied to stop it relocking and btw thatcham don't make alarms they just approve alarms
-
#30Ye his ecu is unlocked for his engine and alarm that was on it,Quote:his ecu will be unlocked now for the car to run but he will have to get it modyfied to stop it relocking and btw thatcham don't make alarms they just approve alarms
But obviously if you'be read the thread you'll realise that his car has had a transplant there for changing the ecu to match the engine and therefore removing the vts alarm because it wouldn't of worked on a vtr ecu.
And the whole thatcham thing you knew what i ment .. -
#31vts alarm will still lock the vtr ecu but wont unlock is as the tue are linked and unless he has the vtr alarm and key you cant send the right unlock code to the ecu but the lock code is genrick
-
#32Thats basically what i've just said in my other post. vts alarms will not work on vtr ecu's,Quote:vts alarm will still lock the vtr ecu but wont unlock is as the tue are linked and unless he has the vtr alarm and key you cant send the right unlock code to the ecu but the lock code is genrick
The OP has a vts with a vtr engine with a vtr ecu that's why his previous owner took the vts alarm out because it wouldn't of worked, what are you getting at ? -
#33ime getting at that the vts alarm will still lock a vtr ecu if its not modyfied to remove the locking pin from the ecu and if you do lock it this way it is bricked was just warning him
-
#34Cheers fellas, i aprecitate the help. So me best bet is to get an aftermarket one, roughly how much am i lookin at? Im thinkim also is it worth it?
-
#35Tempted to do an insrance jobby on it
-
#36hold on a sec. it can still be a vtr. If i remember correctly, you could still get all that as optional extras from the factory on a vtr. i was going to buy a 1997 r-reg vtr once which had a passenger airbag, abs and rear headrests. cant remember if it had a standard alarm or not though but it is possible. Im just saying dont assume straight away its a dodgy motor with a downgraded engine, your mate could've just sold you a well spec'd vtr
-
#37Yeh?? Well thanks mate, ive hed a freind run a hpi check which turned over nothing, im just gna keep it i think, put right whats wrong amd drive it into the ground.
-
#39just do a check over of engine codes if your curious
-
#40Same here mate my mk1 R had a standard alarm .. hmm so on request you could get a R with abs and the works of a S ? But why not just buy the S ? Then again i suppose people did it so they could get better mpg,Quote:Vtr's did come with abs and alarms. They were optional extras so are rare but do exist. My mk1 vtr had a standard alarm.
But like you said they are rare so it could of had a transplant explaining why he hasn't got an alarm because it wouldn't of worked on the R ecu or it could of been a rare R with S features. But if it is a rare one why would someone rip the alarm out ?
If you get where i'm going with this ? -
#41becuase standard alarms are unreliable? i know the standard alarm on my old vts is very unreliable lol goes off in the middle of the night all the time
-
#42Right, confused. Is any one around raf benson or raf brize norton tgis weekend or ill be home in kent next weekend that can give me a definative answer?? Iv give up smoking and wot with this car business, all i wanna do is smoke or hit someone and if i lay someone out at work im in serious s**t
-
#43Check the engine numbers against the v5.The engine number may be on the left hand end of the front face of the block, but some have the number stamped on a machined flat at the flywheel end
-
#44Ok mate will do, thanks
