Guide : How to - Drop Links

  1. #1
First of all Smaller capacity Saxos do not have these as the anti roll bar Bolts onto the wishbone leaving no need for a drop link.

Diagnosis - If when you are going over very small bumps you hear a thuding sound from the front end then its likely the droplinks may have gone.

If you go to your driver side and push down on the front wing ( bounce it ) and you hear the same thud, this means your Passenger side drop link may have gone and vise versa. ( it may also be other things but you wont know untill you check )

    1. if you are getting these thuds when pushing down on the wing, get someone else to do it for you and go to the opposite side of the car and look under the front bumper at the drop link to see if there is any play, chances are they will be.

    2. Loosen wheel nuts on the side that has movement (19mm)

    3. Jack car up behind the arrows and place axel stand under the car. then remove wheelnuts followed by wheel.

    4. Put a Jack under the anti roll bar and jack up an inch or 2, ( puts tension on drop link nuts so you can slacken them )

    5. Completely remove the 2 x 19mm nuts then lower the jack down.

    6. Put the jack under the botom ball joint and jack up untill the threads on the droplink are parallel with the fitment on the strut, and then it should move back out of the top hole, followed by lifting out of the bottom hole.

    7. Put the new Droplink in, and then put the 2 x 19mm nuts back on, not tight as it will spin.

    8. Lower the jack back down and move back to under the anti roll bar and jack back up.

    9. Now there is tension on the droplink so you should be able to tighten back up dont forget to torque the 2x19mm nut's to 70nm easily then refit the wheel.

Its best to replace both droplinks at the same time, as if ones knackerd chances are the other ones not far away. Also the slightest amount of play on the droplink will fail you an M.O.T.
